Christian Baron: “The night is beautiful”. Review by Elke Heidenreich – Culture

Horst messes up, Willy tries to be a good person: Christian Baron has written a brilliant proletarian story with “Schön ist die Nacht”. Class struggle – is that still relevant today? Yes, it is.

This is the story of Horst Baron and Willy Wagner, who met as boys in 1944 in war-ravaged Kaiserslautern – and formed a fatal friendship for life. Willy tries to be decent, Horst does crooked things to get by and keeps dragging Willy into it. Both come from so-called precarious circumstances, both remain stuck in them for life.
