Choreographer Carolyn Carlson turns eighty – culture

She has lived in France for over fifty years, but her French still sounds like an American tourist’s chewing gum. It doesn’t matter, because Carolyn Carlson, who celebrates her 80th birthday on March 7th, is a dancer and choreographer, so she specializes in body language works of art. Over the decades she has created extraordinarily energetic and expressive choreographies that have made it into the Holy of Holies of the West: into the repertoire of the Paris Opera. Since 2020 she has also been part of the choreographic section of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in the French capital. A great honour, as Carlson, as one of only two female members, represents the entire range of contemporary dance from women’s hands.
