Chinese e-commerce giant JD .com accepts digital yuan during 11.11, or Singles’ Day.

E-commerce giant JD.com accepts payments too. China’s central bank digital currency (CBDC) “digital yuan” at a large local shopping event.

JD.com accepted digital yuan (e-CNY) for payments during the Singles Day promotion, which began on Oct. 31 and ended on Nov. 11, the company confirmed Thursday.

“There are 100,000 people using e-CNY in the JD.com app during the Singles Day promotion today,” a JD.com spokesperson said.

“We will continue to work with those involved to explore further applications,” the spokesperson added. The representative declined to specify the value of the e-CNY processed during the promotion period.

JD.com became the first Chinese e-commerce company to accept e-CNY in December 2020, with up to 450,000 customers using e-CNY to pay on the JD.com app from December 11th last year. As of June 18, the spokesperson said in 2021, total net sales of e-CNY exceeded 100 million yuan ($15.6 million).
