The results of the Bertelsmann study are alarming, emphasizes Doris Rauscher, chairwoman of the social affairs committee in the Bavarian state parliament and social policy spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group. The SPD calls on the CSU and Free Voters to finally take effective measures against the shortage of skilled workers – as the SPD has been demanding for many years. “The Free State owes it to our children and their families.”
Groups that are too large, staff ratios that are too poor, still too few time quotas for managers and significantly lower investments in day-care centers compared to the rest of Germany – these are the results of the current state monitor of the Bertelsmann Foundation on early childhood education for Bavaria. Alarming numbers for Doris Rauscher: “The quality in the Bavarian day-care centers is still lagging behind the requirements – especially for the youngest we need pedagogically sensible group sizes and good staff ratios. Unfortunately, there can be no question of that in Bavaria again. In view of the new numbers, all the alarm bells are finally ringing, and the turbo for improvements in day-care center quality must be put in.”
Rauscher calls the lack of staff in the day-care centers “terrifying”
The trained educator Rauscher is also shocked by the high number of almost 62,000 missing daycare places and the additional 35,300 skilled workers needed for this: “Measures against the shortage of skilled workers are all the more important now. We need more training capacities, good practical instructions in training, faster Recognition of skilled workers with foreign qualifications or the use of additional skilled workers, for example in the field of language training or inclusion. Above all, better working conditions are needed so that more people can get excited about this great professional field again.
