Chemical triangle: LBV calls for dialogue about wind turbines – Bavaria

The State Association for Bird and Nature Conservation (LBV) reacts cautiously to the plans for a large wind farm in the state forest between Altötting and Burghausen. Up to 40 wind turbines are to be built there on a maximum of 1300 hectares in order to supply at least a tenth of the energy-hungry industry in the Bavarian chemical triangle with local green electricity. The industry’s goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2040 is in line with the spirit of the LBV, the association announced on Thursday. At the same time, the project is still “skeptical” and calls for a professional dialogue on open questions, according to LBV Managing Director Helmut Beran.

The LBV therefore attaches particular importance to the protection of species, for example birds and bats, and requires a minimum distance of two kilometers between the wind turbines and various protected areas. This could reduce the number of possible wind turbines. The state forests are currently looking for one or two partners who will design, build and operate what is by far the largest wind project in Bavaria. Seven out of the nine municipalities affected fundamentally spoke out in favor of the wind farm, while two were cautious or critical.
