Summer hit 2023 still completely unclear

This year it’s not so easy with the summer hit. Unlike 2022, no Ballermann or other hit is clearly inevitable. But in a few weeks there could be more clarity.
Unlike in previous years, there will be no clearer signs on the German music market in 2023 summer hit. “The official summer hit for this year has not yet been decided,” reports GfK Entertainment.
Possible candidates would be, for example, “Girls on the Horse” by Luca-Dante Spadafora, Niklas Dee & Octavian and the song “Summer” by Casper feat. Cro.
The chart investigators in Baden-Baden assume that the summer hit this year can only be chosen in August, possibly even in mid-August. In 2022, “Layla” by DJ Robin & Schürze was already a summer hit at the end of July as an outstanding party song.
The continuation of the Ballermann bawling wave expected by some with a clear summer hit has not materialized so far. Only at the beginning of the Mallorca season did songs like “Bumsbar” by Ikke Hipgold, Schürz and DJ Robin or “Peter Pan” by Julian Sommer and Mia Julia come out a little bigger (text sample: “I’m blue like the ocean again; And I think I can fly like Peter Pan”).
Who are the candidates?
“Girl on the horse”, on the other hand, is a different kind of techno. The track comes from the two DJs and producers Luca-Dante Spadafora and Niklas Dee as well as the singer Octavian. They made a techno version of a song sung by Fabian Buch from the 2014 film “Bibi & Tina”.
The hip-hop hit “Sommer” (original spelling small, i.e. “summer”) is another unexpected collaboration between the rap stars Casper (40) and Cro (33). The rather melancholic song reflects on missed opportunities, cold and loneliness, but also the longing for warmth and sun (“Feels like a warm rain in a summer; Hear the pattering on the pane and it’s thundering; What I need, it’s just a little bit of sun”).
Possible summer hit candidates due to their chart success this year are also the long-term number one “Komet” by Udo Lindenberg and Apache 207 as well as the silly fast happy hardcore beat hit “Friesenjung” by Ski Aggu, Joost & Otto Waalkes. However, it would be strange, especially with Lindenberg and Apache, if the song, which entered the charts in February, now also became a “summer hit”.
The tradition of the official summer hit is actually that the song comes from relatively unknown artists – or those who have not had a big hit, at least in Germany. Think of “Macarena” by Los del Rio (1996), “Dragostea din tei” by O-Zone (2004). However, this apparent rule has also been broken quite often, for example in 2021 with Ed Sheeran (“Bad Habits”) or in 2019 with Shawn Mendes (“Señorita”, together with Camila Cabello).
