“Charité”: why season 4 is too real to be beautiful

The fourth season of the ARD series Charité failed with audiences. Their future scenarios are too realistic and scare us. We could learn a lot from it.

Many people reject visions of the future, not when they are unrealistic, but when they vehemently continue to spin current events and problems and come to results that they find too realistic and therefore threatening. Researchers know this fear of too much realism from robotics: If a new humanoid robot becomes too similar to a human, we fear it. Androids are only sympathetic as long as we clearly perceive them as not human. If they get too close to reality, they repel us.
