KB5035853, the name of the update for Windows 11, which was released by Microsoft a week ago, keeps users of the operating system on their toes. Windows Latest first reported blue screens of death and slowdowns when starting up the PC, now owners of devices with Ryzen APU are also speaking out. According to them, KB5035853 is supposed to reduce the performance of the IGP of the respective APU in handhelds or laptops.
The March update for Windows 11 is not bad
The handheld ROG Ally from Asus, which is powered by AMD technology, seems to be particularly affected. In the ROGAlly subreddit, users talk about their experiences with their handheld after installing the Windows update and are not at all satisfied. Specifically, the user “Ganley333” summarizes the problem in a post. He speaks of “terrible performance” after the update on his ROG Ally and uses World of Warcraft as an example. This is said to have worked perfectly in the past, but is now unplayable at 30 to 40 fps.
Apparently, according to Ganley333, Windows has replaced the graphics driver for the IGP, but the device manager still says “AMD Radeon Graphics”. The overlay also shows that the IGP only clocks at a maximum of 800 MHz. An official solution – Microsoft still assures on its support website: “Microsoft is currently not aware of any problems with this update.” – doesn’t exist yet, but Ganley333 discovered a solution to the problem, which he added a short time later. He has installed all the latest updates for his handheld (Windows, MyAsus, Armory Crate, etc.) and can give the following solution to the problem:
- Windows Settings
- Apps
- AMD software
- Select “Repair”.
- Select “Reset”.
- Restart ROG Ally
Background: Windows 11: Update KB5035853 is reportedly causing serious problems
Since it actually seems to be the Windows 11 update KB5035853 that is causing all the problems, just like with the problem with the BSODs, it is recommended to uninstall the March update again and wait for Microsoft to fix the errors KB5035853 has officially been declared fixed.
