What’s next for “Scream” after Melissa Barrera’s expulsion? Are Neve Campbell and Patrick Dempsey making a surprise comeback?

Complete chaos in the preparations for the seventh part of the horror film series “Scream”. After the Mexican Melissa Barrera (33) was quickly thrown out because of anti-Semitic statements and Jenna Ortega (21) canceled due to scheduling difficulties, the makers are now without leading actresses. Director Christopher B. Landon (48) also reacted to the chaos on his X account (formerly Twitter) and, according to Variety, wrote: “Everything sucks.” The post has now been deleted. It’s logical that the Hollywood rumor mill is now also bubbling.

The generally well-informed industry publication “Variety” also reports that the return of former “Scream” stars Neve Campbell (50) and Patrick Dempsey (57) is currently being discussed. According to the article, producers are primarily interested in Campbell returning to reprise her iconic role as Sidney Prescott. She has embodied this so far in the first five parts. In part six from 2023, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega took over completely as the sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter.

Another idea the creators had in the background was to repeat Dempsey’s previously unique foray into the “Scream” universe in the third part of the franchise in 2000. However, no discussions have yet been started with Campbell and/or Dempsey.

Melissa Barrera speaks out about the allegations

After her expulsion, Barrera spoke out about the allegations without apologizing for the sometimes disturbing statements regarding the war in the Middle East. She said in an Instagram storythat she condemns anti-Semitism and Islamophobia as well as hatred and prejudice of all kinds. As a proud Mexican, she feels it is her duty to address issues that are close to her heart. Every person deserves the same human rights, the same dignity and the same freedom.

Earlier this month she posted a post that equated the Israeli army’s deployment in Gaza with the Shoah. She shared a post by controversial Israeli historian Raz Segal, who claims that Israel is carrying out “genocide and ethnic cleansing.” The Israeli government is using the Holocaust as an argument to stimulate the Israeli arms industry.

“I pray day and night that there are no more deaths, that no more violence is carried out and that peaceful coexistence is possible,” writes Barrera in his own words. She will continue to stand up for those who need it most and fight for “peace and security, for human rights and freedom.” Silence is not an option for her.

“Scream 7” was actually supposed to hit theaters in 2025. According to Variety, this self-confident goal of the production company Spyglass Entertainment is in danger, but not yet off the table. We continue to stick to the project. Courteney Cox (59) is the only actress to have been on board for all six “Scream” parts so far.
