The 20-year-old couldn’t get past Christian Günter this season and has only made two brief appearances with the Breisgau team. Siquet is expected to gather match practice with the Belgian first division club Cercle Brugge by the summer.
Loan for more playing time: Siquet has been a transfer flop so far
“Hugo now needs regular playing time, but we cannot guarantee that for the foreseeable future due to the high level of competition in the team,” Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach is quoted as saying on the club’s website. The loan therefore makes sense and comes at the right time.
Siquet came from Standard Liège for €4.5m exactly a year ago and has so far been an absolute transfer flop. The people of Breisgau hope that the youngster will prevail in the future, but have not yet given up.
