Champions League in Salzburg: FC Bayern in the individual review – sport

The very foremost representative of the “Koan Neuer” division and not to be envied as such, because this Neuer usually holds almost everything. But would Neuer have kept this giant thing from Adamu? Ulreich did well, saving Bayern from 2-0 early on when he fished Aaronson’s shot out of the corner. Also saved against Seiwald, it wasn’t really his fault that this game was such a tacky story, as they would say in Austria.

Although he is world champion, he rarely plays like a world champion in Munich, which is why he is sometimes suspicious of Bayern. That shouldn’t change after this game, after all, his hesitation at 0:1 enabled the Austrians to take the lead. Again and again, he failed with a lack of sharpness in the passing game and almost caused a penalty with a stroll. Then decided he might be better off up front and at times gave an incognito center forward. But it also remained untraceable for colleagues. Plus point at least: Century rescue against Adamu.

Is considered a representative of the “koa world champion” division and will soon be a “koa Bayern player” more when he moves to Dortmund in the summer. Had to shift into fifth gear several times against Adeyemi, but mastered these duels skillfully. When conceding a goal, it was still too late and thus the final element of a chain of errors. On the defensive still the best Munich, because he embodied at least a little determination.

Iron duel, whose “Atletico Madrid gene” still sprout from every pore. Came on with the memory that he had already scored in Salzburg (November 2020). However, he did not experience an entirely accident-free game, stumbled here and there and at the 0-1 saw an express train called Adeyemi, who simply rushed past him. Overall not sovereign, many passes in the lukewarm area, shaky in construction. Was a long way from scoring a goal this time – instead he had to make sure he didn’t slip from the back.

Has a lot of “Bayern genes” and if he’s vaccinated soon, he’ll have just as many antibodies. Was happy not to have to be the only six in the fray this time and tried to keep things in order on the Salzburg autobahn. But Jessa, as it was, almost like at the festival. After the break with more boss DNA visible, which clearly helped Bayern’s efforts. Got a slap in the face from Camara, it hurt. In the end it didn’t help, it wasn’t his game.

Corentin Tolisso

Should it soon be called “koa Tolisso” because he’s going to Liverpool or somewhere else, Bayern’s moaning would be limited. On the other hand: It’s not bad to have him right now, at least as long as the following applies: koan Goretzka. Was only able to calm down the Salzburg rush hour to a limited extent, he lacked the space for composure and control. Increased his radius in the second half, at least distributed a few balls and drove. But this enthusiasm fizzled out again.

Serge Gnabry

One of the so-called “cornerstones” in the squad, who is still awaiting his contract extension. But is not suspected of moving to Dortmund like Süle. Got his chance early when he stabbed into the sixteen from the right – but RB goalie Köhn parried his flick brilliantly. Was the most dangerous from Munich, tried again and again and yet it was tight like on the ski lifts in Flachau. Pushed and pushed in the sixteen, but there was no getting through.

Thomas Müller

A true Upper Bavarian like him is almost at home in Salzburg, so it was actually “no away game” for him. And then: Fatal loss of ball before the 0:1, it all happened so quickly that even the wondrous miller’s legs couldn’t keep up. Unclean actions that really bothered him and a performance like a stomach ache after too many Mozart balls. At some point, teammate Gnabry tried an overhead kick – and shot Müller. You had to worry about the miller’s legs, but then the miller’s head prepared the 1-1.

Leroy Sane

Likes Salzburg as an opponent, after all he also scored twice against RB in the previous duels. Has since developed into a prime ten and again went into play with the usual finesse. Tried some things too directly, too complicated, my colleagues couldn’t keep up. Put a header on goal and a volley shot far over it – despite all the finesse, he simply lacked the so-called penetration.

Kingsley Coman

With his hooks and dribbles, he could easily circumnavigate the traffic jam on the Irschenberg, past the southern Chiemsee to Freilassing. When he arrived in Salzburg-West he found a football evening full of complications. Rarely reached higher speeds and especially in dangerous areas of the field. Tried a long-distance shot, a skillful take-along – but his opponent Kristensen stuck to him like a sticker on the windshield. But the end was tough: First a slalom run a la Marcel Hirscher, then RB keeper Köhn was still there. Then he scored to make it 1-1.

Robert Lewandowski

A two-time Wööd footballer in Salzburg? Really maddening. But the Pole was all about understatement. Handed out a few balls because he couldn’t get a seat himself. Struggled in a dogfight against the double Hohensalzburg Fortress consisting of Messrs. Solet and Wöber – both unfortunately around 1.90 meters. Remained surprisingly ineffective against these two towers, so that one wondered at some point: had Lewandowski secretly gone into quarantine somewhere?
