An eleven-year-old boy was injured during Bayern Munich’s Champions League second leg match against Paris Saint-Germain in Munich on Wednesday. The boy was hit by falling sparks from a torch and suffered minor burns on his face, police said on Thursday. A suspect from the guest block is being investigated. A 26-year-old spectator was also struck by sparks, damaging his clothing. The use of pyrotechnics is prohibited in Munich stadiums.
According to the police, there were other crimes surrounding the encounter. Even before the game, fireworks were set off at two Munich subway stations, it was said. According to the police, fans ignited pyrotechnics twice at the Marienplatz underground station and four times at the Fröttmaning station. Four French fans were provisionally arrested. During the game there were a total of 31 criminal offenses such as the use of pyrotechnics, trespassing and violations of the Narcotics Act. Overall, the game went peacefully, the police reported.
The European Football Union (UEFA) decides whether Paris Saint-Germain will have to pay a fine for the behavior of its fans. In the first leg, the club was fined 39,500 euros, according to UEFA.
