From the looks of it, Julian Brandt didn’t care in the slightest that he had just been named “Player of the Match” again – after a Champions League game that will be talked about in Dortmund for years to come. But Julian, known as Jule Brandt, perhaps the best Brandt since his namesake Willy, the former Chancellor, just kept grinning into the cameras during the interview on the sidelines. And in his own calm way he once again presented his quintessence of the evening: “We are in the semi-finals. It no longer makes sense not to make it to the final.” With this sentence at the latest, they wanted to revive Willy Brandt’s old campaign slogan and adapt it to Dortmund’s model footballer: “Elect Jule!”
