Do you meet again? Paris Saint-Germain fears two former players before the round of 16 against Bayern. Coman was the Munich final hero in 2020. And Choupo-Moting scored twice in 2021.

At Paris Saint-Germain, in their great longing for the Champions League trophy before the duel with FC Bayern, they once again fear the curse that former PSG players in the premier class particularly like to score goals against them.

When looking at the Munich attackers Kingsley Coman (26) and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (33), this fear of the round of 16 first leg on Tuesday (9 p.m. / Amazon Prime Video) is historically documented.

Coman in top form

“King” Coman in particular is in good form and in the best goal mood for his reunion in Paris’ Prinzenpark after three goals in the last two Bundesliga games. “I’ll go into the game with a lot of confidence,” said Coman. The French international became a PSG scare in 2020 with his header goal to make Bayern 1-0 in the premier class final in Lisbon. It was the greatest moment of his career so far. From 2005 to 2014 he grew up as a footballer at PSG. Coman made his debut in France’s first division as a 16-year-old.

“It’s going to be a great game,” he said on Saturday after the 3-0 win over VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga, looking ahead to the showdown in the Prinzenpark. Coach Julian Nagelsmann relies fully on “King”, in which Real Madrid are said to be interested. This message came up recently. “King is an extremely important player for me, for the club,” Nagelsmann reacted and emphasized on Coman’s future: “From a coaching perspective, it makes little sense to sell him.” Coman’s contract runs until 2027.

Choupo-Moting hot for PSG

Choupo-Moting wore the PSG shirt from 2018 to 2020 before moving on to Bayern Munich. In the quarter-finals of the defending champions in Munich in 2021 against his ex-club, the center forward scored a goal against Paris in the first and second leg as a substitute for the then injured striker Robert Lewandowski. “I wouldn’t mind if Choupo scored,” said Nagelsmann.

“In general, Choupo has developed very well. The fact that he is healthy helps him. He is an important player for us as a point of contact up front, who is very good with his back to goal, who brings in physicality, but coupled with an outstanding footballing ability and the ability to score goals in the sixteen,” said Nagelsmann to the 33-year-old attacker. “He’s very good at exploiting crosses. He changes our game because we don’t have many classic players in the penalty area. Choupo is a very important factor there.”

One thing is certain: the Paris defense will pay particular attention to the two ex-PSG professionals.
