Celebrity News: Lemons for the Queen – Panorama

Jemma Melvin, 31, British hobby baker, sweetens the Queen’s party. The Southport copywriter won the final of the “Platinum Pudding” competition, making her lemon and amaretto trifle the official royal dessert in the 70th Jubilee year. According to British media reports, the layered dessert consists of lemon-soaked sponge cake, orange-lemon jelly, lemon cream, amaretti biscuits, tangerine puree, whipped cream, candied lemon peel, chocolate chips and crushed amaretti biscuits (bottom to top). Melvin was inspired by the dessert at the 1947 royal wedding, when Lemon Posset was served, and by her two grannies. “This particular trifle is a tribute to three women: my grandmothers and the Queen herself,” she told the PA news agency. Her one grandma taught her to bake, trifle was her other grandmother’s specialty, and the Queen had Lemon Posset at her wedding. 5000 recipes had been submitted for the royal dessert competition.

Timur Bartels, 26, actor, raves about his Ukrainian guests. Two months ago he took in an elderly couple. “I have learned how important and beautiful it is to have family around you, for example at dinner together,” Bartels told the German Press Agency. “Sometimes you don’t realize how much you lack such familiarity until you experience it again.” However, there are also irritations. “They couldn’t understand, for example, that as a heterosexual man I still like to paint my fingernails. Even things like not being allowed to clear the table because women do it were difficult at first.” However, they would talk about such subjects. “I also had to get involved with a few things. In return, however, they also accepted how I live and am,” explained Bartels.
