Celebrities: Angela Merkel writes to her namesake – Panorama

angela, 6, a student from Cologne, received a card from her namesake Angela Merkel when she started school. The former Chancellor sent the daughter of Syrian refugees an autograph card with a dedication. Angela was born in Cologne at the end of 2015 – shortly after her family fled the civil war country. Out of gratitude for Merkel’s refugee policy, the child was named after the Chancellor, Father Ezzat told the German Press Agency. Merkel later found out about this from volunteers who look after the family.

Leonie Laryea, 22, Heidekönigin, finally has more days off again. The student of educational science had taken over three terms in a row due to the corona. But she always enjoyed her work, explained Laryea. At the end of the nine-day heather blossom festival in Amelinghausen (Lüneburg district), her successor is to be elected on August 21. About 100 representation appointments are coming up for the 72nd queen. As recently only about six to ten young women applied for volunteer work, this year’s motto is: “Heideblütenfest 3.0 – how do we set up our homeland festival for the coming decades?”
