The librarians in Worcester are real cat fans. Anyone who returns a book late or would actually have to pay for a lost book is in luck. If he shows a picture of a cat, he doesn’t have to pay anything.
Fluff alarm. For a whole month, library users at the Worcester Public Library in the US state of Massachusetts do not have to pay anything if they return their books late. But only under one condition: Cat picture instead of fee. If there is a coffee stain in the book, only show up at the library with an emergency cat picture!
A picture of any cat is enough – it doesn’t have to be your own. “Even if you don’t have a cat in your life, you can draw one,” library director Jason Homer told local media wbur. “Even if it’s one of the big cats, like a tiger or a lion, we look forward to seeing that.”

The whole campaign is called “March Meowness” and runs throughout March. The library started the program to bring more people back to the public library. “At the Worcester Public Library, we are always looking for ways to break down barriers,” Homer told wbur. “We know that many people have unfortunately lost a lot of books due to moving house or the global pandemic.” The library has often carried out campaigns to waive fees – but now the employees wanted to implement a more creative variant.
