Jean Paul Gaultier sunglasses were a big hit at “Cash for Rares”. A dealer really wanted her, but in the end she was outbid by a stubborn competitor.

When Horst Lichter said “When he enters the “Bares für Rares” studio and sees Sven Deutschmanek wearing sunglasses, he has to laugh. “Do they fit me?” the expert wants to know. Lichter’s honest answer: “No. You’re more of a different type.” A completely different picture emerges when the presenter puts the glasses on himself. “They fit you really well,” Deutschmanek has to admit.

Julia Berke-Dahmann brought the object with her. The 47-year-old interior designer from Brühl says it is an heirloom from her mother-in-law. “She was very fashion-conscious.” In fact, these are very special glasses: none other than the famous French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier designed them.

“Cash for Rares”: The steampunk movement emerged in the 80s

The piece here comes from the 1990s and is part of the Frenchman’s steampunk collection. The expert explains that the steampunk movement emerged from science fiction novels in the 80s. “That was the idea of the future from an earlier perspective,” says Deutschmanek.

The saleswoman would like 800 euros for the glasses. However, this goes too far for the expert; he considers 300 to 350 euros to be realistic. Berke-Dahmann would give up the glasses for that. And so it goes into the dealer room.

There Sarah Schreiber tells us about her secret addiction: she collects sunglasses. If she had hoped that the revelation would give her priority in the campaign, she was disappointed: everyone present was bidding. Walter “Waldi” Lehnertz in particular proves to be particularly stubborn. The price soon rises above the estimated value, but “Waldi” simply cannot be shaken off.

He even outdoes himself and increases from 610 to 700 euros. This breaks Schreiber’s resistance. The glasses change hands for twice the estimated value. “Don’t I have any cool sunglasses?” shouts “Waldi” proudly after the successful business.

Christian Vechtel only has one sentence left: “You’re crazy!”
