Carole Bouquet, winemaker, named “Personality of the Year” by the “Revue du vin de France”

Carole Bouquet is not just a movie star. It also shines in another area: wine. The French actress has a vineyard in Sicily and was named “personality of the year” on Thursday by the French wine review (RVF), who salutes in her an amateur and “advocate of all wines”.

She is thus one of the 12 winners of the “Grands prix du vin” awarded each year by the magazine, which reward personalities working to “spread the culture of wine” in France. “It’s better than an Oscar!” Making wine is not my job, but they understood that I had a passion for this land, ”rejoiced the actress to AFP.

Passion and work

Carole Bouquet bought a property 20 years ago on the volcanic island of Pantelleria, with a few hectares of abandoned vines which she restored at the cost of “titanic work”. It now produces 5,000 bottles of sweet white wine “Sangue d’Oro” there each year. “With no wine origin, she fell in love and decided to make a sweet wine there, very complicated to produce, which requires a lot of time. She commanded our admiration,” the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Denis Saverot, told AFP.

Last year the French wine review rewarded Emmanuel Macron, “the first president to have taken a position in favor of wine culture for a long time”, according to Denis Saverot.
