Car design: The ugliest cars in the world at a glance

Car design is a question of taste in the broadest sense: you can argue about it, but you will probably never come to an objective conclusion.

Still, there are vehicles that are (subjectively) so horribly designed that they definitely deserve their place in the list of the world’s ugliest cars. It’s cars like the Fiat Multipla that come to mind when you see such a hit list. And BMW designer Chris Bangle was also often wrong in the late 90s and early 2000s from the point of view of taste and critics. Before his time, BMWs were often timelessly elegant and sporty, but models such as the 7-series BMW clearly gained in appearance, got tear sacs and attached trunks. What that was supposed to be – only Bangle can answer that.

Fiat Multipla & Co.: The ugliest cars in the world

Also a classic and one of the ugliest cars in history: models from the factory of the South Korean car manufacturer SsangYong. The Koreans wanted to conquer western markets in the 2000s and built the Rodius, among other things. A strange crossover of station wagon, van and microbus. The design was supposed to be based on the construction of yachts – but to be honest, not much of this flair has reached the car. Wild curves, small wheels and strange proportions define the look of the SsangYong Rodius.

Renault also has a curious design epoch to show: With Megane and Vel Satis, the French wanted to make a combination of hatchback and notchback socially acceptable. The ducktail wasn’t a huge hit, but was tried again in the Avantime. Avantime: This was a huge coupe the size of a van, equipped with a huge glass roof and very idiosyncratic headlights.
