Oui, the cinema is back!

The 75th Cannes Film Festival – still the most important cinema festival in the world – has opened!

Actor Forest Whittaker (60) was the first world star right from the start. He received the festival’s Palme d’honneur in gold.

But he wasn’t the only one sunbathing on the red carpet. Our cinema star Emilia Schüle (29), TV icon Eva Longoria (47) and cult actress Rossy de Palma (57) also shone in the crowd.

Pandemic? Crisis? Was there something? The competition is bursting with stars, and so is the program as a whole.

Tom Cruise (59) will land in a few hours to present his action hit “Top Gun: Maverick”, Anne Hathaway (39) is approaching, as are Robert Pattinson (36) and Marion Cotillard (46) – and Tom Hanks (65 ) coming next week!

Corona, it seems, could do little to the cinema world.

Anticipated hits in the millions are also traded behind the scenes on the film market on the Croisette. The global film circus generates 20 percent of the global billion-dollar turnover in just ten days in Cannes!

In the evening the festival was closed with the zombie comedy “Final Cut“ opened. The film was originally called “Z” but was renamed after the outbreak of war in Ukraine.

And yes, that’s the only crisis that can’t be washed down with champagne here.

Officially, Putin’s film delegations have been unloaded, and a number of oligarchs’ yachts are not – as has been the case until now – in the port of Cannes.

However, the Russian star director Kirill Serebrennikov (52), who has been living in exile in Germany since the beginning of 2022 and was even in prison under Putin, is in the competition for the Palme d’Or with his film “Tchaikovsky’s Wife” – and even has good ones Win chances!
