In the discussions about climate catastrophe, corona pandemic and right-wing populism, the authority of scientific justifications was severely damaged. Is science still suitable as an anchor of our order?
The history of western civilization has been the history of the disenchantment and dethronement of all kinds of authorities since the Enlightenment at the latest. God has been dead for a long time, but the reputation of the state, justice and politics has also suffered badly. In the more recent past, glamorous substitute authorities such as sport (because of doping aka fraud through increased performance) or the media (because of “fake news” aka fraud through refusal to perform) caught it.
