Call for a national strike in the extracurricular sector Tuesday and Wednesday

A call for a national strike is announced in schools Tuesday and Wednesday in the extracurricular sector to denounce its “precariousness”, causing possible disturbances in leisure centers, extracurricular centers and the catering sector.

This call to strike was launched by the Snuter-FSU unions, the CGT, the CNT, Sud and the France animation en struggle collective, which in particular demand “the revaluation of the salary scales of animation assistants and animators to revive the attractiveness of (their) professions ”or even“ supervision rates which allow real educational work and not “daycare” ”.

Precariousness long before the coronavirus

“If the health crisis has served as a detonator, the suffering and precariousness have lasted for many years”, assures the CNT in a press release, demanding “a real status, more hours, the end of the part-time work suffered ( …) Or even a real salary to be able to make a decent living from (their) jobs ”.

According to the Snuter-FSU (local authority agents), “the precariousness of most of the animation staff who are too often temporary or contractual has increased with the health crisis and their professional skills are all too often ignored”, a -he wrote at the beginning of December in a letter addressed to the Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer, to the Secretary of State in charge of Youth Sarah El Haïry and to the Minister of Public Service, Amélie de Montchalin.

Frequent entertainment sessions

“The exponential workload, chronic understaffing and ever-decreasing supervision rates no longer allow all animation staff to carry out their missions in good conditions”, underlines this union. A rally is scheduled in front of the Ministry of National Education on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

At the end of November, Secretary of State Sarah El Haïry launched a “meeting of animation” bringing together representatives of local authorities and employers’ associations on the issue of remuneration and part-time work. They are meeting for the second time now and will meet again in January.

Announcements expected in February

“The animation sector, whether it is voluntary animation in summer camps or professional animation in extracurricular centers, needs to be reformed to regain its attractiveness”, explained the Secretary of State for Youth and Engagement.

Sarah El Haïry assures us that she will make “announcements” from the month of February. “The action plan that I will propose will consist of rapid and strong measures and a roadmap for the years to come”, she added. At the end of October, she announced aid of 200 euros paid in 2022 to 20,000 young people to partially finance their training in animation professions.
