C&A follows Sport Scheck in Munich’s pedestrian zone – Munich

C&A becomes a new tenant of Sport Scheck on Neuhauser Straße. The sporting goods retailer announced around two weeks ago that it would be closing its flagship store in Munich’s pedestrian zone. The company, which belongs to René Benko’s Signa Group, filed for bankruptcy in November. Negotiations with the owner, Bayerische Hausbau Real Estate, to accommodate the rent had failed.

The new tenant in the Joseph-Pschorr-Haus will be the fashion company C&A, as Bayerische Hausbau announced on Friday. She has signed a long-term rental agreement with the company for almost 6,000 square meters of retail space in a prime location. The Joseph-Pschorr-Haus, which is located opposite the Alte Akademie, was opened in 2013 and is currently also home to brands such as Deichmann and TK Maxx.

C&A has been a fixture in downtown Munich for more than 70 years. But the rental agreement for the current location on Kaufingerstrasse expires at the end of 2024. The clothing company was therefore looking for a new location in the immediate vicinity. It has now been found. Carsten Horn, Market Lead at C&A for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, said according to the press release: “We at C&A want to be where our customers are. That’s why we are happy to have a new home in the Joseph-Pschorr-Haus in Munich’s city center to have found.” The company, which is owned by the German-Dutch Brenninkmeijer family, says it has more than 1,300 branches in 17 European countries and employs around 27,000 people.
