At the end, during the final applause, Martin Kušej steps up to the stage and bows to the Viennese audience with an ironic and elegant flourish. So that’s it, after five years his time as Burgtheater director is coming to an end. There are still two very last premieres coming up in April; Last Saturday’s – “Orpheus Descends” by Tennessee Williams – was the last one staged by the director himself.
