Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) has announced that Germany will expand its engagement in the Sahel, despite the decision to withdraw the Bundeswehr from the UN Minusma stabilization mission in Mali by mid-2024. The federal government has decided that “we will reorganize our commitment in this crisis-ridden region, together with our international partners,” she said on Wednesday during the budget debate in the Bundestag.
