Bundeswehr – Queer soldiers are still discriminated against – Munich district

The association “QueerBw” has achieved that homosexuals are compensated for the discrimination they have suffered in the army. Chairman Sven Bäring was recently honored by the Bundeswehr University for his commitment. But the fight against discrimination against members of the LGBTQI community in the troops is not over yet.

Daniela Bode, Neubiberg

Until the year 2000, homosexuals were not wanted in the Bundeswehr. It was not until 2021 that the law on the rehabilitation of homosexual soldiers was passed, which is intended to make up for the disadvantages they have experienced. The “QueerBw” association, which advocates for the interests of homosexual and bisexual as well as transgender and intersex members of the Bundeswehr, played a key role in this. Its chairman Sven Bäring, 28, studied electrical engineering and information technology at the Bundeswehr University in Neubiberg until 2022. He recently received the university’s diversity prize for his commitment. In the interview he talks about the ongoing fight against discrimination against queer soldiers.
