The trend of recent years continues: 36,103 people in Bavaria were naturalized in 2023. This means that the number has once again increased significantly by 27.4 percent compared to the previous year. Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) announced this historic record on Friday. Around a quarter of the new Germans in Bavaria in 2023 come from the European Union, with Romania, Italy, Hungary and Poland leading the way in the statistics. As in previous years, Syria is the front runner outside the EU; the country of origin accounts for almost 30 percent, namely 10,325 people. They are followed at some distance by Iraq, Turkey, Ukraine, Afghanistan and Kosovo. This means that the consequences of the particularly strong migration of 2015 are becoming increasingly apparent in the naturalization statistics.
