The AfD is a particularly fond of litigation, and its concerns have reached an impressive level in Karlsruhe: 22 lawsuits are currently pending, which may not seem like a lot considering the annual turnover there of around 5,000 cases, but it still creates a lot of work for the Federal Constitutional Court. Because such actions by organs – unless they are clearly without substance – must be heard orally. It’s quite possible that there’s a disruptive strategy behind it, but the answer isn’t quite that simple. In any case, this Wednesday, the Second Senate of the court negotiated a very complicated concern of the AfD: Can the AfD parliamentary group be outright denied the chairmanship of the Bundestag committees?
