Eintracht Frankfurt draws an initial interim conclusion after the bloody clashes. The club announced that the incidents surrounding the duel against Stuttgart cannot be excused.

Eintracht Frankfurt has condemned the bloody clashes between fans, security forces and the police around the home game in the Bundesliga against VfB Stuttgart.

“The violent action against the stewards and especially against the security staff, which set the entire chain of events in motion, is unacceptable,” it said in a statement.

The incidents cannot be excused and will keep the club busy for a long time to deal with them and the consequences, explained Frankfurt’s responsible board member Philipp Reschke. In total, more than 200 people are said to have been injured in the riots. “We will carefully evaluate the findings and eyewitness reports that reach us and make an appropriate classification,” said Reschke.

VfB fans not involved

The club and the police had rated the game as a so-called “yellow” game, the Hessians said. This means that the duel was under observation. “In any case, a different assessment by the police as a risky game was never communicated to Eintracht Frankfurt in advance,” it continued. The Hessians also expressly pointed out that VfB Stuttgart fans “were in no way involved in the events in question.”

The club is now obliged to deal with the police operation, which has never before taken place in the stadium in this form in terms of duration and intensity. The next home game is on Thursday in the Conference League against PAOK Saloniki. Reschke hopes for things to go smoothly and said: “We will be keeping a very close eye on the participation of those involved. Each individual shares responsibility for ensuring that we experience a safe, peaceful and, above all, successful football evening.”
