Coach Thomas Tuchel will leave FC Bayern Munich after this season. Felix Magath would have preferred a quick end. He finds clear words for Tuchel’s public appearance.

Former Bayern coach Felix Magath would have the German football record champions immediately separate from the coach Thomas Tuchel favored. “I’m surprised that Bayern solved it in such a way that Tuchel can stay until the end of the season,” said the 70-year-old to the news portal “Watson”. “If he improves the relationship with the players, he can solve the situation well. But if the cooperation between him and the players was not good for a year, it will be very difficult to fix it in the remaining months.”

The 50-year-old Tuchel, who lost the last three competitive games with Bayern, will leave the German champions after this season, the club announced on Wednesday. Magath himself coached the Munich team from the summer of 2004 to the end of January 2007, and in 2005 and 2006 he became the first coach in Germany to win the championship and cup double twice in a row.

Magath is not surprised that the Munich team is parting ways with Tuchel: “The development that the commitment had been taking all this time was too bad.” The separation is the logical consequence. “Bayern’s performances were already bad before him, but things didn’t get much better because of him,” said the long-time Bundesliga coach.

Magath also criticized Tuchel’s public appearance. “When someone like the coach is so sensitive to factual criticism that is not directed at him as a person but rather at the tactical attitude of his team, then it quickly becomes clear that things will be difficult.” Tuchel’s original contract with FC Bayern ran until summer 2025.
