Julian Nagelsmann won’t. FC Bayern is still looking for a Tuchel successor. This should now become a world star.

According to a media report, FC Bayern Munich is about to sign Zinédine Zidane will be the head coach. As the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” reported, the French world and European champion is said to be “just one step away” from succeeding Thomas Tuchel in the new season.

After Julian Nagelsmann extended his contract as national coach until 2026, the 51-year-old is the top candidate. Accordingly, “an agreement has practically been concluded” even if the contract has not yet been signed, it said. It’s just a matter of little things, so Zidane asked the sports management for reinforcements for the defense.

Until now, Nagelsmann was considered number one on the candidate list. But the return of Tuchel’s predecessor has come to an end with his longer ties to the German Football Association. Ralf Rangnick, coach of the Austrian national team, was also traded. Bayern agreed with Tuchel at the end of February to end the contract, which actually runs until the end of June 2025, early this summer.

Former successful coach of Real

The Spanish sports newspaper “Marca” had previously reported that the Munich team had contacted the agent of the former successful Real Madrid coach in the past few days. Bayern have expressed their interest in signing Zidane.

Zidane announced an imminent return to the coaching bench in February. However, the Frenchman left it open where and when he would join again. The three-time world footballer trained Real Madrid from 2016 to 2018 and most recently from 2019 to 2021. With the “Royal” he won the Champions League three times in a row. Since his departure from Madrid, there has been repeated speculation about a coaching comeback at various clubs. For example at Juventus Turin, where Zidane was active as a player, or as a French selection coach. In France, national coach Didier Deschamps has extended his contract until the 2026 World Cup.

Franck Ribéry could also play a role in the speculation about Zidane. It was recently reported that the club bosses were having a “thought game” – Ribéry could therefore return to the club he loves as an assistant coach – alongside his compatriot Zidane if he were to take over the post of head coach.
