Mats Hummels leaves it open what will happen next for him after this season. When it comes to the topic of the national team, the veteran from Borussia Dortmund is evasive.

Rio world champion Mats Hummels doesn’t want to decide whether to continue his career until the summer. “Nothing has been decided in any direction. I think that will actually only be decided for me after the end of the season,” said the Borussia Dortmund central defender after the 2-0 win in the top game of the Bundesliga at FC Bayern.

Recently there was speculation about the sporting future of Hummels and Marco Reus (34) at BVB – both contracts expire in the summer.

“I feel like it anyway, it just hurts a lot,” said Hummels, who showed a strong performance in Munich. He was no longer nominated for the national team by national coach Julian Nagelsmann in March. Others should judge whether he has to take part in the home European Championships in the summer (June 14th to July 14th), said Hummels, who became world champion with the DFB team in Brazil in 2014 and has 78 international matches to date.
