Bundesliga: Harry Kane shoots FC Bayern to victory against FC Augsburg

Status: 08/27/2023 7:24 p.m

FC Bayern Munich also secured an unchallenged victory in the Bundesliga on the second day of the game. This is thanks to record champion Harry Kane, who scored twice in the 3-1 (2-0) win over FC Augsburg on Sunday (08/27/2023).

Games against FC Augsburg have been one of the rather unpleasant tasks in a season for FC Bayern Munich for several years. The Fuggerstadt team have even won two of the last four league games, but even when they win, things are usually tighter than the record champions would like. And this time, too, it was clear from the start that it could be a tough evening for coach Thomas Tuchel’s team.

Augsburg makes it difficult for Munich again

His Bayern pressed from the first minute, the game took place almost exclusively around the Augsburg penalty area. But every time a defensive player managed to throw himself in at the last moment before things became dangerous. And from this a self-image developed that ensured that the guests became more and more courageous in their counterattacks – although they could not complete them dangerously either.

That changed after 26 minutes. Augsburg had the first good chance of the game, but Emerdin Demerovic missed the Munich goal from a tight angle (27th). It was an attack that woke Bayern up a bit, as the hosts also got their first shot on goal shortly afterwards. Leon Goretzka tried it from 18 meters out, but Finn Dahmen was able to parry it (28′).

Bayern double strike in eight minutes

And then came the first good move – and good luck for Munich. Serge Gnabry put through to Leroy Sané, who was saved by Dahmen, but the ball bounced off Felix Uduokhai’s thigh, who gave Bayern the lead with an own goal (32′). For the Tuchel team, one creative moment was enough after a performance that had been lacking in ideas up to that point.

But all of a sudden, things became clearer. A little later, Niklas Dorsch blocked a shot from Joshua Kimmich with his arm and the hosts were awarded penalties. Harry Kane, who had hardly been involved in the game up to this point, grabbed the ball and, as usual, converted it safely to make it 2-0 (40th).

FCB overlooks Kane and misses the third goal

In the second half, too, Bayern showed that they now had the means to defeat their opponents. Kingsley Coman served Kane, but his shot from a tight angle went wide of the target (49′). Otherwise, it was noticeable in the master’s game that it has not yet been adapted to the new superstar. Colleagues often overlooked Kane in promising final positions. It also takes time to harmonize at this level.

Coman continued to have the most action with his explosive sprints with the ball at his feet. One of his crosses was missed by Sané, who missed the ball six meters from the goal (62nd). Shortly thereafter, the Frenchman hit the next strong cross, but Dahmen was able to parry Gnabry’s header in an excellent way (63′). After the subsequent corner, a shot by Dayot Upamecano was blocked just before the line (64′).

Kane puts the lid on

The Bavarians deserved the win more and more because Augsburg no longer managed to put themselves in the limelight offensively. But the third goal was just missing. Sané missed that by a few centimeters, after a strong run down the right flank he curled the ball into the far corner, but hit the post (68th). Shortly thereafter, Kane declared this task a top priority. Alphonso Davies stormed through on the left, played across and the €100m new signing lobbed the ball over Dahmen to make it 3-0 (70′).

Bayern took this goal as an opportunity to shift down a gear. The game was decided and it was clear that after the 4-0 win in Bremen there would be another clear win at the start. It almost became even clearer, but Kane missed his third goal with a header from seven meters (85th). Instead, Augsburg got a consolation goal from Dion Beljo (87th).
