Sébastien Haller is back after his testicular cancer. The striker is about to make his BVB competitive debut.

Sébastien Haller is about to make a comeback in the Bundesliga. After chemotherapy and two operations, the 28-year-old striker is part of Borussia Dortmund’s squad for today’s game (3:30 p.m. / DAZN) against FC Augsburg, but is initially on the bench.

The Ivorian national player, who suffered from testicular cancer last summer, has not yet played a competitive game for BVB. “He’s not back, he’s finally here. He hasn’t even played with us in this stadium until now,” said BVB coach Edin Terzic on DAZN and was looking forward to the reinforcements in attack. In any case, he has many more options again. “It’s that situation again where you have to make tough decisions where there’s nuance. But that’s what we want. Everyone in this squad is needed.”

In contrast to Haller, newcomer Julian Ryerson, who was signed by Union Berlin just a few days ago, is already in the starting XI. In addition to Thomas Meunier, Mateu Morey and Emre Can, the Dortmund football teacher Terzic has to do without captain Marco Reus, who had not trained this week due to illness. Terzic now wants to start catching up: “Of course we’re not satisfied with the standings. We had to look at it for 72 days. We worked a lot, talked a lot. Now it’s about showing things. We’re ready for that , very hungry.”

At FC Augsburg, coach Enrico Maassen relies on newcomers Dion Beljo and Arne Engels from the start. Kelvin Yeboah, Irvin Cardona and David Colina, who were also committed a few days ago, are on the bench.
