After the first few meters as the new professional of 1. FC Union Berlin on the lawn of the stadium An der Alten Försterei disappeared Robin Gosens again. Just like the rest of the Bundesliga squad.

To warm up, they left the stadium under the analog scoreboard, where around 2,500 fans had gathered for public training. Half an hour later Gosens and his new teammates came back. And it got loud in the mood temple of Berlin-Köpenick, where Gosens should make his Bundesliga debut against FSV Mainz 05 on Sunday.

A few fans called “Robin Gosens”, their new star thanked them with an almost embarrassed wave. Otherwise, Union remained true to its motto. There was no special presentation of the new purchase, which was said to have been committed late Tuesday evening for 15 million euros.

“I’m really in the mood,” the 16-time national player wrote on Instagram after the announcement of the Union transfer coup. The dream of the Bundesliga will come true for him. He came onto the pitch with a smile at the first training session.

He had previously played at Inter Milan for a year and a half and even reached the final of the Champions League with the traditional club. Most recently, however, the left-back had only been a supplementary player. Before his time at Inter, from whose fans Gosens said goodbye with his own message in Italian, he had played for Atalanta Bergamo. In the summer of 2017, the native Rhinelander moved there from Heracles Almelo.

Union wants to add after Gosens transfer

Union is planning further purchases after the transfer coup. They are not yet one hundred percent happy, said professional football manager Oliver Ruhnert in the podcast “kicker meets DAZN”. “We still lack a bit of mentality and a bit of life in the team,” he said.

In recent years, in which the Irons have repeatedly improved in the table even after promotion to the Bundesliga in 2019 and will even compete in the Champions League in the coming season, the collective was the key to success. They have now got one or the other player who is great in sport and will also help them, “but in the end it always takes a team, not just the individual quality of the individual,” said Ruhnert.

In addition, Union should agree with AS Monaco about a change from national player Kevin Volland. There is also speculation about a transfer from Italy’s European champion Leonardo Bonucci. Ruhnert did not name names. But he announced: “We’ll get more players. Those are the players we wanted to get. It’s just dragging on a bit.”
