Bundesliga: Dortmund fights for victory in Hoffenheim

Status: 01/22/2022 5:48 p.m

Borussia Dortmund manages a hard-fought away win at 1899 Hoffenheim. This brings the BVB table leader FC Bayern a significant step closer.

BVB won 3-2 (1-1) in the top game at TSG Hoffenheim and is only three points behind the leaders from Munich.

Star striker Erling Haaland (6th) and captain Marco Reus (58th) scored for Dortmund four days after the 2-1 draw in the round of 16 in the cup at second division FC St. Pauli. There was also an own goal by Hoffenheim’s David Raum (66′), and Donyell Malen shone with three assists. However, Bayern can increase the gap to BVB again to six points at Hertha BSC on Sunday.

Haaland takes the lead

After seven home games in a row without defeat, Hoffenheim suffered another bankruptcy at home. The anniversary goal from Andrej Kramaric (45’+1′) and the goal from Georginio Rutter (77′) didn’t change that.

In front of the 500 allowed spectators in Sinsheim, it was obvious to Dortmunders in the early stages that they were looking for compensation. After a strong combination, Malen hung up for Haaland, who only had to push in from a short distance. It was the Norwegian’s 16th goal of the season.

Richards just hits the bar

Hoffenheim, whose captain Benjamin Hübner, who was injured for a long time, celebrated his comeback in the Bundesliga after 19 months, had to cope with the next setback shortly afterwards. The Austrian national player Christoph Baumgartner left the field in a daze (9th).

Rutter came on for Baumgartner, who almost scored the equalizer just a few seconds after being substituted on (11′). After this scene, the Kraichgauer became more and more courageous. Defender Chris Richards hit the bar with his head (23′).

Jubilee Gate of Kramaric

Far too few came from the guests in this phase. BVB begged for compensation. Coach Marco Rose’s team endured one TSG attack after the next. In the 41st minute, Manuel Akanji saved from Kramaric, who was ready to score.

The equalizer would have been well deserved for Hoffenheim – and it fell before the break. Kramaric scored his 100th competitive goal for TSG after assisting Ihlas Bebou.

At the beginning of the second round nothing changed in the course of the game. Hoffenheim dominated the game, the lead of the Kraichgau seemed only a matter of time.

However, Reus marked the goal on the other side – again after preparatory work by Mal. Shortly thereafter, Haaland had to leave. The goalscorer was obviously plagued by groin problems. A little later, TSG full-back Raum scored in his own goal. Rutter made it exciting again.

Hoffenheim in Mainz, Dortmund against Leverkusen

Hoffenheim will play in Mainz on the next matchday (5 February 2022, 3:30 p.m.), Dortmund will host Leverkusen (6 February 2022, 3:30 p.m.).
