When looking for a coach at Union Berlin, the name of world star Raúl initially caused a stir. But now another coach is supposed to come. The sporting glimmer of hope almost fades into the background.

After persistent rumors about a commitment by world star Raúl, according to media reports, Croatian Nenad Bjelica will instead be the new coach of Bundesliga soccer team Union Berlin.

The 52-year-old should sign his contract with the Eiserne this Sunday, according to the TV station Sky reported. The Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio from Sky Sport Italia also reported similarly.

The “Kicker” had previously reported that there were increasing signs that Real Madrid legend Raúl would succeed long-time successful coach Urs Fischer at Köpenick. Union and the Swiss parted ways last week after months without a win and slipping into the relegation region.

Bjelica was coach at Turkish first division club Trabzonspor until mid-October. He gained Champions League experience with Dinamo Zagreb and Austria Vienna. The 52-year-old worked longer in Austria and played in Germany for 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Union attaches great importance to the head coach speaking German.
