Bayern Munich celebrates Schützenfest – and Stuttgart a last-minute victory
Sadio Mané missed a penalty but scored in the rebound
FC Bayern Munich is in a goal mood on matchday 12 of the Bundesliga. Stuttgart gets big points in the relegation battle and Leverkusen loses again. The games at a glance.
FC Bayern has taken the lead in the Bundesliga for at least 24 hours. The record champions won 6-2 (3-1) against FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday and initially passed 1. FC Union Berlin, who hosted Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday (3:30 p.m. / DAZN). RB Leipzig initially worked their way up to fifth place by beating Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 (1-0). Bayer fell back to 16th place.
VfL Wolfsburg won 4-0 (2-0) against table penultimate VfL Bochum. VfB Stuttgart got three points in the fight against relegation with a late goal in the 2-1 (1-1) win over FC Augsburg. In the evening (6.30 p.m. / Sky) Eintracht Frankfurt meets Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern Munich – Mainz 6: 2
National players Serge Gnabry (5th) and Jamal Musiala (28th) got Bayern on course early on. Alexander Hack was responsible for the penalty before the third Bayern goal by a margin shot by Sadio Mané (43rd) with a foul on the subsequent goal scorer. Silvan Widmer (45+4) scored the 1:3 from Mainz’s point of view. Shortly before, Jonathan Burkardt failed with a penalty kick to Bayern goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, who caused the penalty by fouling the shooter.
Leon Goretzka (58′) and Mathys Tel (79′), who had just come on as a substitute, also scored for Bayern. Marcus Ingvartsen’s goal (82′) for the guests no longer had any effect on the distribution of points, especially as Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (86′) scored Bayern’s sixth goal.
Leipzig – Leverkusen 2:0
Christopher Nkunku (32nd) was successful for Leipzig and made the task even more difficult for Leverkusen. The Werkself subsequently found it difficult to find their way back into the game. Coach Xabi Alonso reacted in the 65th minute with three changes – but the next goal was scored by Leipzig’s Timo Werner (83rd).
Stuttgart – Augsburg 2:1
Florian Niederlechner (4th) gave Augsburg an early lead in Stuttgart, but Serhou Guirassy (15th) equalized just a little later. The game remained hard-fought, Waldemar Anton (90 + 1) caused great celebration in Stuttgart in injury time.
Wolfsburg – Bochum 4:0
Felix Nmecha (27th) gave Wolfsburg the lead, his brother Lukas, who was also in the starting XI, was one of the first to congratulate him. Ridle Baku (35th) increased before Felix Nmecha (58th) was successful again in the second half. Jonas Wind (80th) scored the final score.
