The series of failures at FC Bayern continues. Winger Kingsley Coman was injured in Augsburg and was out for a longer period. A “dream player” is in Munich – who else is coming?

FC Bayern Munich has to deal with the next long-term loss due to the injury Kingsley Coman is reconsidering his transfer plans in the winter.

“Not much can happen anymore, that’s clear,” said sports director Christoph Freund after the 3-2 win in the Bundesliga at FC Augsburg. “We have good quality players, but a lot of them are also missing.” The transfer planning for the winter had actually been completed, said the 46-year-old.

Personnel situation worsened

Coman will be missing from the German football series champions for weeks. The 27-year-old suffered a torn medial ligament in his left knee during the away win against FC Augsburg on Saturday, as the Munich team announced in the evening. “It’s bittersweet, of course,” said Freund.

“But knowing Kingsley, he will come back even stronger. We wish him a speedy recovery.” Coman will most likely also be missing from the French team in the international match against Germany in Lyon on March 23rd.

The personnel situation at the record champions is getting worse and raises the question of how the Munich team will operate on the transfer market. “It’s a bit magical at the moment that we go out with an injured player every game,” complained veteran Thomas Müller.

“Absolute dream player”

Central defender Eric Dier was recently signed by Tottenham Hotspur and was in the starting line-up for the first time in Augsburg. Official confirmation is still missing for Sacha Boey, who was signed from Galatasaray Istanbul for almost 30 million euros.

He would be an “absolute dream player,” says Freund. “If it works, hopefully, we’ll be very, very happy. We’ve known him for a long time, but he also played very, very well against us. He brings us a lot of physicality, a good tackler, a lot and intensively on the move. He brings us power and energy.”

The Munich team had to do without Dayot Upamecano and Konrad Laimer (both muscle injuries) as well as Joshua Kimmich (shoulder) in Augsburg. Bayern are also still missing the long-term injured Serge Gnabry (hamstring injury in the left adductor area), Bouna Sarr (torn cruciate ligament) and Daniel Peretz (injury to the medial ligament in the right knee). Minjae Kim and Noussair Mazraoui are also currently not in the squad as they are taking part in the continental championships with their national teams.
