Building cleaners – wage increases – economy

In the collective bargaining for the building cleaning trade, there is an agreement for the approximately 700,000 employees. As reported by the industrial union for construction, agriculture and environment (IG BAU), the starting wage in October is expected to rise from the current 11.55 euros to 13 euros an hour and thus by almost 13 percent. In addition, earnings in all wage groups are to be increased by one euro per hour, followed by another plus in January. The lowest hourly wage is then 13.50 euros. “Now we have managed to keep a clear distance from the legal minimum,” explained Ulrike Laux, member of the federal board of IG BAU. This is an important recognition for “the indispensable work of the employees”. The collective agreement runs until December 31, 2024. The collective bargaining committees of both parties still have to approve the agreement.
