The federal government has to plug billions in holes in the budget. According to employer president Rainer Dulger, savings should be made in administration.

Employer President Rainer Dulger has called on the federal government to make savings in the administrative area. Dulger told the dpa with a view to the tense situation of the federal budget: “As an entrepreneur in this situation, I would check and question investments and projects and order a hiring freeze to reduce personnel costs. Applied to politics, there is still a lot of room for improvement, which could now be used to legitimize other adaptation measures. For example, one can also ask oneself whether every planned new building at the federal ministries and the Chancellery actually has to be carried out.”

Dulger continued: “Are the additional positions in the ministries actually necessary, or would personnel optimization be the instrument of choice? Should the high increases in public pay actually also apply to political leadership? Was the inflation bonus actually intended for them too? The same thing applies to political leadership as it does to corporate management: Credibility can also be achieved by acting as a role model.”

As a result of a budget ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court, the federal government has to plug billions in holes in its budget. A planned expansion of the Chancellery has long been criticized because of its high costs. Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) also criticized this and put plans for a new building next to his own ministry on hold last March.
