To mark the 150th anniversary of the foundation, there was another debate about the empire in 2021. There are among German historians every ten to twenty years, which is due to the fact that the small German nation-state from 1871 is a kind of great-grandfather (until recently: grandfather) of the Federal Republic. Much of his legacy – such as legislation – still has an impact today.
