Bruno Le Maire is “sure” that prices of food products “will fall”

Could this be a promise from Normand? Guest of the show “Sunday in Politics”, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire said: “I am sure that certain prices will fall”. Specifying that these reductions would be seen “as soon as the trade negotiations have ended”, on January 31.

“Last year, when there was a commercial negotiation, there was a 15% price increase. Today, we are more around 5%. It’s still too much,” he said. “My responsibility is to ensure that prices fall on as many products as possible,” repeated the minister, adding: “You will have on butter, on oils, on certain products such as poultry, on certain meats, price reductions, not just stabilization. » His promise was coupled with an affirmation: “It is not a question of returning to pre-crisis prices. It will not arrive. »

The Minister of the Economy was also questioned about the food checks requested by certain actors to help the most vulnerable French people. He believes that this is not “the right path to follow”, favoring aid to associations and food banks. “Let’s forget about check policies, we can’t afford them today,” he said.

No double insurance deductible for victims of Pas-de-Calais

Concerning the victims of Pas-de-Calais, victims of the floods of recent days and already affected in November, Bruno Le Maire hoped “that none of the inhabitants of Pas-de-Calais or the areas which were flooded pay” a second time the insurance excess. “The commitment was made by the insurers, I made sure of it this week. I know that insurers will keep their commitment,” he said.

The excess applicable in the event of a natural disaster is a maximum of 380 euros, according to Bercy. At this stage, 98% of the insurance assessments for the damage caused by the November floods have been carried out and “50% of the November victims have been compensated”, he indicated.

Faced with the multiplication of climatic events, Bruno Le Maire also said he was in favor of an increase, in 2025, in the insurance premium for natural disasters. “We must anticipate in order to be able to compensate in the best conditions. This increase will be of the order of 16 euros maximum per year and it will protect all those who are victims of these floods and these climatic phenomena,” he said.
