The reason for the serious traffic accident on Thursday near Brunnthal, in which a driver died, is still unclear. As the police announced on Friday, the driver, a 60-year-old from Munich, came into the oncoming lane at around 12:20 p.m. on state road 2573 in the direction of Sauerlach. There he crashed his BMW head-on into a tanker truck. The truck went off the road and came to rest in a ditch. The driver’s cab and the tank structure were deformed, but the tank remained undamaged, so that, contrary to initial reports, none of the charged diesel oil escaped. The 63-year-old truck driver was slightly injured and taken to a hospital, while the 60-year-old Munich driver’s car was severely deformed by the head-on collision. The driver was trapped and succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident. The scene of the accident was closed for around four and a half hours. It is still unclear why the Munich driver drove his car to the left side of the road. The Munich traffic police have started the investigation.
