Brunnthal – A bag clerk and his leather trousers – district of Munich

Of

Bernhard Lohr, Brunnthal

“Griaß di”, says Max Lechner, “come in.” The 22-year-old stands in the doorway wearing a coarse linen shirt, short leather pants and, of course, barefoot. With a big smile on his face, he invites us into the Oberland-style house, which would already be a postcard motif even without its occupants in the middle of the meadows on which cows graze. During the Oktoberfest, lederhosen and dirndls are also popular in Munich. For many people in the Oberland, however, the traditional costume, the brass band music and the platters are not folklore. Lechner Max, as his friends call him, wears his leather trousers like others wear jeans. Of course, the fact that he made them himself by hand also comes with it. Just like some other things.
