Bruce Lee’s daughter denounces “continuous attacks” on her father by Quentin Tarantino

After leaving Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, Shannon Lee, the daughter of Bruce Lee, had rebelled against the deplorable portrait that Quentin Tarantino had given of his father. Indeed, in the film, the martial arts master camped by Mike Moh shines above all by his arrogance, before taking a derailment by the character of Cliff Booth played by Brad Pitt. During a recent visit to the podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, the filmmaker dismissed Shannon Lee’s criticisms with the back of his hand, stressing that he suspected that she would have taken the thing wrong since “it’s her fucking father”. Words which, as one can imagine, strongly displeased the main interested party.

“I’m really fucking tired of white men in Hollywood trying to tell me who Bruce Lee was,” Shannon Lee said in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, believing that his father has been reduced to a caricature since his disappearance in 1973.

A little understood reality

“I’m exhausted to hear white men in Hollywood say he was cocky and that he was an asshole. They don’t have a clue and can’t understand what it was like to work in 60s and 70s Hollywood as a Chinese man with an accent, or to try to express an opinion on a set. of filming by being seen as an outsider and a person of color, ”continued Shannon Lee.

Finally, if the daughter of Bruce Lee understands that the offending scene was primarily intended to make the character of Cliff Booth shine, she continues to think that it was “inaccurate and unnecessary” and that Quentin Tarantino could have avoided such cliché in his film.
