British Minister of Health tested positive

More than ever on the front line in the face of the coronavirus. British Health Minister Sajid Javid announced this Saturday that he had tested positive for Covid-19. “I was feeling a little groggy last night so I had an antigen test this morning and it came back positive. So I isolate myself now at home with my family until I get the result of a PCR test, ”he explained in a video posted on Twitter.

Sajid Javid is fully vaccinated and assures that his symptoms are “very mild”. He encourages those who have not yet had their second dose of the vaccine to do so “as soon as possible” and to get tested if they have symptoms or if they come into contact with a person who tested positive.

The minister spoke, without a mask, in the House of Commons on Monday afternoon to confirm the lifting of most of the remaining restrictions related to the coronavirus in England from July 19, including the compulsory wearing of the mask and the social distancing. He returned to the lower house of Parliament the next day to answer questions from MPs.

The campaign launched in December 2020

The government justifies this next major step in deconfinement by the success of a vaccination campaign launched in December, which has enabled more than two-thirds of adults to be fully vaccinated and has “weakened” the link between illness, hospitalizations and death , allowing the public health system to cope. Nevertheless, the number of contaminations continues to increase, due to the strong contagiousness of the Delta variant, which is the majority in the United Kingdom. The country recorded 50,000 daily cases on Friday, unheard of since January.

The United Kingdom is one of the countries most affected in Europe by Covid-19, which has killed more than 128,500 there.
