Jailed Friday, and detained at HMP Altcourse prison, in Liverpool, Benjamin Mendy remains in pre-trial detention. The Manchester City defender has been denied a request for release under judicial review. The French international is accused of four rapes and one sexual assault. The footballer was not present at the hearing, which was held behind closed doors in a court in Chester.
A new hearing is scheduled for September 10. Benjamin Mendy is charged with three rapes in October 2020 and one rape in August 2021, at his home in Prestbury, Cheshire. He is also accused of sexual assault on a woman, also at his home, at the beginning of last January. The alleged assaults concern three women, including a minor.
His club, where he has been playing since 2017, had suspended him on Thursday, a few minutes before the police announced his referral to justice.
