Construction work on the A1: A bridge over the motorway was demolished on Saturday. There were massive traffic disruptions. The A1 is closed until this afternoon.
Some road users caused additional chaos and dangerous situations with intentional misconduct. As the police announced on Saturday evening, several trucks were parked on the hard shoulder on the southbound lane, thereby narrowing the lane further. In the north, several road users drove illegally backwards over the hard shoulder of the motorway to get back to the Bramsche junction. The police asks all road users to drive around the closed area.
Traffic jams were feared in advance
The motorway between Neuenkirchen-Vörden (Vechta district) and Bramsche near Osnabrück has been completely closed in both directions since Friday evening until probably this afternoon. Because of the autumn holidays in several federal states, it had already been speculated in advance that there could also be massive delays on the alternative routes.
Further information
Bridge landed on sand
The structure was demolished with excavators and landed on a bed of sand. This should prevent damage to the roadway of the A1. As the responsible branch office of the motorway company in Osnabrück announced, traffic in the direction of Bremen will be diverted from Neuenkirchen-Vörden via the U7 to the Holdorf junction. In the direction of Dortmund, traffic will be routed from Neuenkirchen-Vörden via the U20 to the Bramsche junction.
Roadway widening makes new construction necessary
A new bridge has to be built for the motorway crossing directly at the Neuenkirchen-Vörden junction because the motorway is currently being widened to six lanes. This afternoon, 2 p.m., traffic is expected to flow again in both directions.
